Buying an open diesel generator set

An open generator set gives direct access to the engine, alternator, radiator and controls without an acoustic canopy around the package. Open sets can be considered for an existing generator room or a project with a separately designed enclosure. Compare the complete installation requirement as well as the purchase price.

Check whether the advertised unit includes its radiator, control panel, circuit breaker, silencer and fuel tank. Photographs are useful, but the quotation should identify the equipment supplied. If you are replacing an existing set, compare dimensions, cable entry, exhaust routing and cooling-air requirements before agreeing the delivery.

An open unit needs an installation appropriate to its environment. Discuss weather protection, sound control, ventilation and safe maintenance access with your installation designer.
