Acoustic generators
Acoustic generators are housed in enclosures designed to reduce sound and provide a degree of protection. Noise varies by set, operating load and installation. The words “silent” or “super silent” are listing descriptions; ask for a measured sound level, the distance at which it was measured and the test conditions if noise is critical.
Open generator sets
An open set exposes the engine, alternator and cooling equipment for access. It can suit a properly designed plant room or bespoke enclosure, but the installation must address ventilation, cooling air, exhaust, noise and environmental protection. Discuss the intended location and installation design before ordering.
Containerised generators
Containerised sets package the equipment within a larger enclosure, often a modified shipping container. They can be useful for larger power requirements, but a container’s presence does not prove it is suitable for every transport method. Confirm external dimensions, total weight, lifting arrangements and the documentation required for the intended shipment.
Plan access and maintenance
Whichever configuration you choose, allow suitable access for service work and equipment removal. Check the clearance needed for doors, radiator airflow and exhaust routing. Supply photographs or a site layout when discussing a delivery or installation.
Compare the actual unit
Look closely at the listed photographs and request more detail where needed. Confirm the condition of panels, doors, seals, lifting points and the base frame during inspection. Used equipment varies, so the final quotation should identify the particular generator and included enclosure.
