Plan the movement around the actual set
Before arranging collection, identify the exact generator and the equipment included in the agreement. State whether it is an open set, acoustic generator or containerised package. Confirm overall dimensions and the appropriate transport weight from reliable records rather than estimating from a similar model.
Share access information early
- Collection postcode, site contact and agreed access hours.
- Door, gate and route dimensions, overhead restrictions and ground conditions.
- Whether the machine is inside a plant room, on a roof or below ground.
- Available lifting information and the equipment proposed for loading.
- Any components or site services that prevent the set being moved.
- Photographs of the generator and the route to the loading area.
Confirm responsibilities
Agree who will disconnect the set, arrange lifting, load the vehicle and receive it at the destination. Electrical isolation and handling must be planned by competent people. Do not treat a purchase agreement or a transport quote as confirmation that every part of the removal is included.
Equipment and paperwork
Make a list of loose items, records and accessories travelling with the set. Record identification details and agreed condition at handover. Discuss fuel, batteries and other transport requirements with the appointed carrier before collection; the requirements depend on the equipment and journey.
Sending a generator overseas?
