Value depends on the individual generator
A model name and kVA figure are useful starting points, but do not establish a sale value. The available records, condition, included equipment, location and cost of recovering the set also matter. UGT considers the information you supply before discussing whether a purchase is suitable.
Details for a useful assessment
- Generator make, model and serial or asset number, where available.
- Prime and standby outputs, voltage and frequency as shown on the plate.
- Year, displayed hours and any known controller replacement.
- Current operating condition, known faults and date last run.
- Available service records and details of the previous application.
- Included canopy, tank, controller, breaker, silencer and accessories.
- Location, access restrictions and whether the set is still installed.
Which photographs should I send?
Include a whole-set view from both sides, readable generator and engine plates, alternator plate, hour display, control panel and any damage. Add photographs of the route out of the building and lifting or loading restrictions. Take photographs only where you can do so safely; do not open live electrical equipment or start a faulty machine for a photograph.
Unknown details are welcome
If you cannot identify a rating, year or model, write “unknown” and send a clear plate photograph. Describe the hours as the displayed reading unless the total is supported by records. Avoid guessing figures that could be mistaken for confirmed specifications.
Enquire before planning removal
